Thursday Night
Boerne 35, Laredo United 31
After coming close to getting Brett Sawyer his first win as the Greyhounds head football coach last week, Boerne High accomplished the feat after they rallied to beat the Longhorns from United 35-31 Thursday night in Laredo.
Sawyer said he’ll remember this one.
“I will remember the kids and coaches and their ability to be tough and resilient,” he said. “I wouldn’t want another kind of win. It’s special because of how we won at the end.”
Grant Sweeney hit Zach Freasier with a deep pass as the clock went under a minute Thursday to put BHS on top 35-31. The Longhorns still had 58 ticks and pushed the ball to midfield but the Greyhounds defense turned them away.
BHS is 1-1 and hosts Medina Valley Friday for homecoming on Friday.
