DILLEY - A fourth-quarter rushing touchdown from Comfort’s Omar Rivera proved to be the difference in Friday’s football game between Comfort and Dilley.

Friday’s contest in Dilley was tied 28-28 before Rivera punched it in from the 1-yard line late in the game for the seven-point lead.

The Wolves still had about four minutes to work with and moved the ball, but the Bobcat defense didn’t give up the lead as they held on for the seven-point win at 35-28.

Comfort is 2-0 and visits Ingram Friday, 7 p.m.

Neither team could get much separation in the evenly matched contest. Carter Pape put Comfort up 7-0, but Dilley answered to make it 7-6 after they didn’t convert a 2-point try to end the first quarter.

Hunter Ledlow added to Comfort’s lead with a 6-yard touchdown run early in the second with 8:49 left for the 14-6 lead.

The Wolves scored on a short run into the end zone by Juan Garcia in the second quarter but again missed the 2-point try and was still trailing 14-12.

However, with only 20 ticks on the clock until halftime, Dilley held its first lead of the game after Troy Gonzales sprinted in from 35 yards and the Wolves were up 20-14 after converting their 2-point try.

But the half wasn’t over, and Comfort answered. On the last play of the second quarter, Rivera scampered in from 52 yards with no time on the clock to give the Bobcats a 21-20 advantage going into the halftime break.

Comfort added to its lead after Case Barrett hauled in a 28-yard TD pass from Rivera and the Bobcats were up 28-20 to end the third.

The Wolves never held the lead after that but tied the Bobcats early in the fourth on another short run and it was knotted up at 28-28 after Dilley converted another 2-point play.

Rivera closed it out with what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown plunge and the 35-28 lead and the Bobcats held on from there.

Rivera finished with two rushing touchdowns and 187 ground yards on 16 carries, while Pape tallied 116 yards on the ground on 10 totes and had one score. Ledlow recorded 23 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Barrett hauled in Comfort’s only passing TD on a 28-yard catch.

Rivera finished 3 for 7 for 72 yards through the air and a touchdown pass.
