Catherine Kerr

Feb. 11, 1940 Sept. 2, 2025

Catherine Sue Chesney Kerr went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 2, 2025. Her home in heaven wasn’t secured by her goodness but by her Savior, Jesus Christ’s, finished work on the cross in her place.

After a private burial, there will be a memorial service on Sept.13 at First Baptist Church Boerne at 11a.m.

She was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Oklahoma City to Mary Anna Gladstone Chesney and Robert Buchanan Chesney. She was preceded in death by both her parents. After living in Oklahoma and Arkansas, her family moved to Benton, Louisiana when she was 7 years old. This is where she spent her growing up years. She attended Centenary College where she was a member of the choir and Chi Omega Sorority and then graduated from the University of Houston.

In 1961 she married Stephen Denton Kerr, her husband for 64 years. They lived in Houston where she taught school while he finished dental school. After Stephen’s two years in the Air Force in Alexandria, La., they were back in Houston for Stephen to attend orthodontic school. They then made their home in the Houston area where he had his orthodontic practice. Their two children, Kellie and Jeffrey, were born in Houston.

They spent 10 years in El Paso, Texas, then returned to the Houston area.

After retirement in 2012 they moved to Boerne. Here they have been active members of First Baptist Church.

Catherine is thankful for God’s call to serve Him through Bible Study Fellowship for 30 years. There she grew in her knowledge of and her relationship with Jesus Christ as she served as a discussion leader, a substitute teaching leader, and an Area Class Administrator. She is thankful for her spiritual growth and the lasting friendships that were made through BSF.

One of her greatest joys was preparing and recording Bible lessons each month for each of her seven grandchildren until each one graduated from High School.

She was “Gram” to Jonathan and Kayla Kerr, Andrew Kerr, Easton Kerr, Michael and Chloe Kerr — children of Jeffrey and Michelle Kerr and Drayton and Christine Collingwood, Carson Collingwood, Anna Caroline Collingwood — children of Kellie and Kirk Collingwood. Also 3 great granddaughters, Molly and Maggie Collingwood and Campbell Kerr.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen, her children, Jeffrey Kerr and Kellie Collingwood and her sisters, Martha Wach and Frances Patterson.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Boerne Legacy fund.
