Chargers run at Canyon Cougar Invite

The Boerne Champion cross country program ran at the Canyon Cougar Invitational XC Meet held last Friday at Starcke Park in Seguin.

It was a strong showing by the Chargers after all four of the teams entered finished in the top 2 in their respective divisions.

Champion’s varsity boys took first, the varsity girls were second, while the JV boys were also first and the JV girls came in second.

The Chargers were back on the course at the Five Mile Dam Soccer Complex in San Marcos hosted by Buda Hays.

Varsity Boys

Champion won the race with 70 points in the field of 14 teams. TMI – Episcopal (115) took 2nd and Pieper (126) came in third.

The Chargers did a great job of pack running and had four runners finish within six places of each other.

Mason Nelson led the Chargers after he was 7th in a time of 17:10.14, while Brandon Martinez, Abhiram Bhogireddy and Noah Moreno finished 10-11-12 after Martinez posted a 17:24.40 for 10th, Bhogireddy clocked in at 17:26.42 for 11th and Moreno recorded a 17:27.89 for 12th.

Pierce Mitchell was 30th in 18:06.51, Adan Valdez turned in an 18:18.56 for 39th and Riley Cooksey placed 76th with a 19:45.02.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Chargers tallied 60 points for second place behind district foe Smithson Valley (31). NB Canyon was third with 76 points in the field of 10 teams.

Emma Radtke and Rebecca Bezerra both recorded top 10 finishes after Radtke and Bezerra placed 5th in 19:32.84 and Bezerra was 6th in 19:35.35.

Luciana Zazueta Ibarra, Elena Duran and Addison Graham went 16-1719 after Zazueta Ibarra clocked in at 20:46.90 for 16th, Duran was 17th in 20:47.90 and Graham finished in 20:58.36 for 19th.

Anora Cerean and Abigail Alger finished 45-46 after Cerean was 45th in 22:23.81 and Alger placed 46th in 22:40.94.

JV

The Champion JV boys won their race with 40 points and had the top runner after Hector Canales took first in 18:50.59, while the JV girls were 2nd with 66 points.

BHS

The Greyhounds were off last week and will race at the Lovejoy Meet this weekend in the Dallas area.
