Lady Chargers earn another five-set victory

Boerne Champion remained undefeated in the 26-5A volleyball standings after the Lady Chargers picked up a tough five-set win over Alamo Heights.

Champion improved to 4-0 and all four of those wins have gone five sets, much to the dismay of head coach Kelly McDaniel, who is happy with the wins but wouldn’t mind seeing a sweep or a fourset victory every once in a while.

The Chargers beat the Lady Mules, 25-27, 25- 15, 21- 25, 25- 21, 15-11. Champion improved to 19-2 overall and was 4-0 in district entering Friday’s home match vs. Boerne High.

Taylor Fenton and Cassidy Breuer both tallied 19 kills, while Brielle Boothe finished with a baker’s dozen in kills, 13.

Aleah Ramirez, Fenton, Brady Cooksey and Boothe all dropped in 2 aces, Fenton came up with 5 blocks, while Boothe had 17 digs, Finley Weikle added 15 digs, Hannah Perez was also in double-digit digs with 14, while Breuer and Brady Cooksey both recorded 12 digs. Cooksey also chipped in with 57 assists.

NOTES: Champion entered the week ranked No. 6 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 5A poll, ahead of No. 12 New Braunfels. The Chargers and Unicorns are the only two undefeated teams in 26-5A heading into the weekend.
