While the Boerne High volleyball team didn’t get the win they were hoping for Tuesday night when the Lady Greyhounds hosted Smithson Valley, at least one BHS player reached a personal milestone.
During Game 2 against the Lady Rangers, Boerne senior Haley Wheeler tallied the 1,000th dig of her high school career.
The team seemed to be aware that Wheeler was on the verge of joining the 1,000 club, because as soon as it happened, coaches and fans in the stands celebrated as play continued on the court.
Smithson Valley won the match, 26-24, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20 and Wheeler hit the milestone during Boerne’s win in Game 2.
The Lady Hounds are 16-8 overall and 1-4 in District 26-5A. BHS played at Champion Friday and hosts Alamo Heights Tuesday.
In Tuesday’s home match, Bella Pettet led the team with 13 kills, Ava Seamans and Paige Stegall finished with 11 kills and Holly Reeder added 10 kills.
Lauren Magnus and Kynsie Jones both dropped in 3 aces apiece, Wheeler came up with 19 digs, Magnus had 13 digs and 37 assists, while Jones and Pettet recorded 9 digs each.
NOTES: Tuesday’s match at Greyhounds Gym was only the second one at home for the BHS volleyball team, which is 24 matches into the season.
