BHS and Comfort football teams roll, Chargers and Geneva suffer losses

Smithson Valley 41, Champion 14

Boerne Champion hosted the defending state champs Smithson Valley Friday to open district play and the Rangers rolled to a 41-14 win over the Chargers.

Champion is 2-2 (0-1) and continues league play Friday at Seguin. 

Brogan Dempsey scored both Charger TDs on Friday on long pass plays, one from Julian Navarette and the other from freshman Roman Flugence, who replaced Navarette after he was hurt in the second quarter.  

Boerne High 49, East Central 7

The Greyhounds were on the road and defeated East Central 49-7 to improve to 3-1 this year.

Friday's game was tied 7-7 and then the Greyhounds tallied the final 42 points of the game.

BHS opens district play Friday and hosts Alamo Heights.

*Comfort 49, Johnson City 35

Comfort hosted Johnson City and defeated the Eagles 49-35. 

The Bobcats remain perfect at 4-0 and are home again Friday when they host Llano.

Comfort was up 21-0 by early in the second and never looked back.

*Cypress Christian 62, Geneva School of Boerne 50

Cypress Christian handed Geneva School of Boerne its first loss of the season after they defeated the Eagles in a shootout, 62-50.

Geneva is 3-1 and on the road Friday at Schertz John Paul II.
