Alamo Heights tennis team moves into first place with win over Greyhounds

The Boerne High tennis team hosted Alamo Heights Tuesday at the Greyhound courts with first place on the line in 26-5A.

BHS and the Mules were both undefeated in league play entering Tuesday’s match so the winner would remain the lone unbeaten squad in the district.

After an 11-8 win over the Greyhounds, it looks like the Mules have the inside track to this year’s district title.

Boerne suffered its first loss in 26-5A and stands at 9-2 overall and 5-1 in district. The Hounds hosted Antonian in a non-district match Friday and resumes league play Tuesday at Pieper.

In Tuesday’s match, Alamo Heights was up 4-2 in doubles, but the Greyhounds won the final doubles match on the court to make it 4-3 as it went to singles play.

The Mules won the first two girls singles matches on the court and then picked up a victory on the boys side to open up a 7-3 advantage.

Alamo Heights was up 8-4 with all seven remaining matches on the court and it stayed there for a while before the Mules won three of those seven matches, while the Greyhounds took the other four to close it out.
