After upsetting the Champion volleyball team last week, the Lady Greyhounds were hoping to ride that momentum into Tuesday’s home match against Alamo Heights.
However, the Lady Mules prevented BHS from winning two in a row after they defeated the Lady Greyhounds in four sets, 25-23, 15-25, 30-29, 25-17.
Boerne is 2-5 in district and 17-9 overall. They’ll take a break from 26-5A play and hosted McCollum Friday. They’ll visit Pieper on Tuesday as they close out the first round of district action.
With Tuesday’s match tied at 1-1, the third set was a rollercoaster for both teams and went to the max of 30 points before the Mules claimed it, 30-29.
Both squads had chances to win that marathon set. Boerne had more opportunities and was up 26-25, 28-27 and 29-28 and needed just one point but the Mules hung tough. Alamo Heights only led once after it went beyond 25 points and it came when they pulled ahead 27-26 before they close it out, 30-29.
With BHS up 29-28, the Lady Mules tallied the final two points to take Game 3 and hold a 2-1 match lead.
The Mules had a fast start in Game 4 and jumped out to an 8-2 advantage, forcing a Boerne timeout. Heights opened a double-digit lead at 17-7 and BHS coach Staci Lawrence burned her last time out.
The best Boerne could do after that was trim the lead to seven points as the Mules went on to wrap up the win.
Bella Pettett paced BHS with 14 kills, Holly Reeder and Ava Seamans both recorded 12 kills and Paige Stegall had 10 kills.
Kiley Coffland and Pettet both served up 3 aces, Seamans came up with 6 blocks, Haley Wheeler tallied 24 digs, Lauren Magnus had 11 digs and Coffland totaled 10 digs, while Magnus also chipped in with 35 assists.
