COMFORT — So far this season the Comfort High volleyball team has been perfect through district play.
Comfort has swept the first two opponents it faced in league action. The Deer took care of Florence in three sets last weekend and did the same thing Tuesday when they defeated archrival Blanco.
Comfort claimed Tuesday’s victory 25-14, 25-21, 25-23, and is 2-0 in district and 21-11 overall. They hosted Llano Friday at 5 p.m., before the football game between the Bobcats and Yellowjackets.
Against Blanco, the Deer sprinted out to a 10-point lead in the first set at 19-9 before winning it by 11 points.
The Lady Panthers played better in the second set but never held the lead in the game. Blanco cut it to 9-8 at one point but wouldn’t get any closer.
Blanco’s best chance to take a game came in the third set. The Panther pulled ahead by three points at 17-14 before Comfort went on a 4-0 run to tie it and retake the lead. It was back-and-forth the rest of the way.
Blanco held a 21-20 lead and was up 23-22, but the Deer tied it at 23-all and then completed the sweep by tallying the final two points.
Tindall Ahrens led Comfort with 14 kills, Jordan Judkins had 6 kills and Faith Diaz de Villegas added 5 kills.
Judkins dropped in 3 aces, Ahrens had 2 aces and Diaz de Villegas came up with 4 blocks and Ahrens had 2 blocks.
Rubi Lozano tallied 20 digs, Ahrens added 9 digs, while Corrine Brown finished with 16 assists and Savana Womble chipped in with 10 assists.
