Nothing runs like a Dear
Comfort High hosted the annual Billy Nabours Oktoberfest cross country meet around the school grounds last week.
Nabours, the former cross country and track coach at the school, was even on hand to start the race.
Nabours watched as Comfort runner Jackson Dear captured first place after posting a 17:44 in the 5K boys race, while Corina Joyce of Pleasanton won the two-mile girls race in a time of 12:28.
Comfort is scheduled to run at the Mason Invitational this week and then host the District 5-3A meet on Monday, Oct. 6.
Varsity Boys
Comfort’s Jackson Dear topped the field for first place in a time of 17:44, Jose Castillo was 32nd with a 22:14, Josiah Rucker finished 35th after running a 23:24, AJ Patton posted a 23:50 for 37th and Carlos Camacho came in 38th with a time of 23:56.
Pleasanton won the boys race with 37 points, Ingram came in second at 46 and S.A. Stacey took third with 75 points, followed by Wimberley (106), Marion (135), Comfort (143) and Harper (157).
Varsity Girls
Comfort’s Ellana Thiele paced the Deer after she finished 8th with a time of 13:55, while Alondra Castro, Jordan Judkins and Lexie Womble went 17-1819 after Castro clocked in at 15:09, Judkins recorded a 15:11 and Womble turned in a 15:13.
Olivia Sanchez came in 21st after she posted a 15:42, Gretchen Alford was two spots back in 23rd with a time of 16:27 and Harper Cole rounded out the team with a 16:46 for 24th.
Wimberley won the girls race with 26 points, Pleasanton took second with 35 points, Comfort finished third after scoring 83 points, Blanco tallied 96 points for fourth and Harper rounded out the field with 149 points.
