Hail of a catch!
The Boerne High football team went into its bye week with a big win under its belt after the Greyhounds defeated Alamo Heights in the 13-5A DII opener last Friday.
Boerne threw everything at the Mules including a trick play that resulted in a touchdown and also completed a Hail Mary pass at the halftime buzzer to tally another score.
BHS’s win against Alamo Heights snapped the Mules’ 34-game district winning streak that started in 2020. It also means the Hounds finished September at 4-0 after a season-opening loss to Pieper in late August to stand at 4-1 overall.
Boerne’s 1-0 start to district gives them the inside track to this year’s 13-5A DII title since the Greyhounds and Mules were the two favorites, but BHS coach Brett Sawyer said they still have lots of work to do and emphasized that one win doesn’t mean they’ve arrived as they focus on the final five games of the regular season.
When the Greyhounds resume district play on Oct. 10, they’ll be on the road at Harlandale. After Harlandale, they’ll host Victoria West on Oct. 17 and then play two Thursday games. Boerne tangles with Veterans Memorial at Rutledge Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 23, and then they’ll be home the following Thursday, Oct. 30 against McCollum and face former Greyhound assistant David Wilkinson.
After that, Boerne closes out the regular season at Kerrville Tivy on Nov. 7.
