Comfort High closed out the non-district portion of its football schedule Friday night with a short trip to Bandera.

Friday’s contest between the Bobcats and Bandera had a few momentum swings and the final one went in favor of the Bulldogs, who went on to defeat Comfort, 28-20.

Comfort slips to 4-2 overall and has dropped its last two. The Bobcats are off this coming Friday and open district play on Oct. 17 at Rogers.

Comfort drew first blood in Friday’s game and took a 7-0 lead after Omar Rivera tossed a 44-yard touchdown pass to Gabriel Gonzalez late in the first quarter.

Bandera tied it up with a long pass play of its own as the Bulldogs connected on a 62-yard scoring strike from Dalton Parks to Jeffry Thomas and the first quarter ended knotted up at 7-7.

Comfort grabbed the lead again early in the second when Rivera tossed his second TD pass of the game, this one to Damian Neri to put the Bobcats back on top 14-7. But once again, the Bulldogs answered for the fourth tie or lead change of the game at that point.

Parks and Thomas hooked up again on a 69-yard strike, and it was 14-14 with 9:03 left in the second.

Later in the quarter, the Bulldogs took their first lead of the game after Jake Cesta punched it in on a 2-yard run just 15 ticks before halftime and Bandera held a 21-14 edge at the break.

The Bulldogs added to their lead in the third after Parks and Thomas worked together for their third pitch-and-catch touchdown of the night to help the Bulldogs pull ahead 28-14.

But Comfort answered right away after Carter Pape scored 22 seconds later after he busted loose on a 75-yard touchdown run and Comfort had pulled within a score at 28-20 with 7:40 left in the third, but it turned into a defensive battle from there.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter and Bandera held on for the 8-point win.

Thomas caught six passes for the Bulldogs that went for 179 yards and three scores, while Parks was 10 for 19 for 220 yards.

Pape finished with 143 rushing yards on 19 carries while Rivera completed three passes, but two went for touchdowns.
