For the third straight match, the Boerne Champion volleyball team has swept an opponent they struggled to defeat in the first round.
Champion’s latest sweep came at Smithson Valley last Friday on the road after the Chargers defeated the Lady Rangers in three, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23.
In the first meeting between Champion and Smithson Valley, the match went to five games before the Chargers won.
Champion is 23-5 overall and 8-3 in district. They hosted Alamo Heights Tuesday, another team that took Champion to five games in the first round.
After that, the Chargers visit Boerne High on Tuesday, a team they lost to in the first round.
In last Friday’s match, Taylor Fenton and Cassidy Breuer both finished with 12 kills, Brielle Boothe dropped in 3 aces, Fenton came up with 4 blocks, Finley Weikle added 2 blocks, while four Chargers finished in double-digit digs.
Boothe led Champion in the dig department with 19 digs, Brady Cooksey recorded a dozen digs and Weikle and Hannah Perez both came up with 10 digs, while Cooksey cooked up 33 assists.
