There will be a new 5A girls state champion in cross country this year after two-time defending state champion Boerne Champion’s Elizabeth Leachman didn’t run at Tuesday’s district meet.
Leachman won the district title last year but didn’t finish her race at regionals. However, the team qualified for state, and she was able to run in Round Rock and win the title in 2024.
Leachman, a senior and a twotime Footlocker National champ, hasn’t raced this fall as she deals with some health issues and isn’t expected to race at regionals.
