SAN ANTONIO — Dominating on both sides of the ball, Boerne High School went on the road to capture a 49-14 win over the Harlandale Indians.

Starting the game forcing three consecutive three-andouts and scoring on each of its offensive possessions, the Greyhounds raced out to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

From the start of the game, junior quarterback Grant Sweeney was in rhythm, finding senior wideout Eli Nikolas twice and sophomore wideout Jacob Hicks in the first quarter for touchdowns.

Sweeney was dynamic on the ground as well, scoring from 7 yards out in the second quarter, then continuing to move the ball in the second half. He made defenders miss in the backfield enroute to a 42-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to extend the lead to 42-0.

“He’s a good athlete. When you get a good athlete, give them some space, that’s part of what makes him go,” head coach Brett Sawyer said.

The Hounds’ defense stifled Harlandale’s runpass- option offense, leaving them no room to garnish flow. The tough Hounds’ defense held the Indians without a first down until the second quarter.

Coming out of halftime, the Indians looked to gain some momentum, but the Hounds were opportunistic. Senior defensive back Jaxon Pettet snagged a Unyces Garcia pass and returned it 58 yards for the pick-six and a 49-0 lead still in the third quarter.

Sawyer said he was satisfied with his defense’s performance and credits their depth and ability to a full four-quarter game.

“We start rotating guys through, and you’re not falling off very far,” Sawyer said. “People are executing at a high level.”

The Greyhound offense has been potent all year, scoring 30 plus points in all five of their wins this season. Sawyer said he believes if they continue to focus on their execution, the Hounds will be dynamic versus any opponent.

“When everybody does the job right, then you have a chance,” Sawyer said. “Your opponent doesn’t matter; it’s about you doing what you got to do.”

The Hounds — 5-1 overall, 2-0 in District 13-5A DII play — return home Friday to host the Warriors of Victoria West (6-1, 2-1 in district), who lost their first game of the year to Alamo Heights on Friday. Kickoff at Boerne ISD Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
