Comfort High returns to the gridiron as they open district play Friday at Rogers.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Rogers.
The Bobcats are coming off their bye week and used that time to fine tune and rest up after suffering a lot of injuries.
Rogers kicked off league play last Friday and lost to Blanco, 37-32. The Eagles stand at 4-3 overall and are 0-1 entering Friday’s game.
Comfort and Rogers have no mutual opponents (in non-district), and since they are in Region I, which is the West Texas region, Bobcats coach Jay Rieken said he doesn’t know a whole lot about them. Rogers is about a three-hour bus ride for Comfort and just south of Temple.
“They don’t play anybody in the area, so I don’t have any film on them really,” he said. “That’s the sad part of playing somebody so far away, we haven’t seen them play.”
Rieken said what makes it harder to get info on Rogers is that last year’s head coach left, and the new one changed up a few things.
“It’s a new coaching staff so we don’t have a whole lot on them. They’re going to more spread stuff, but their defense is similar to what they did last year,” Rieken said. “They’re playing really well and I was hoping with a coaching change they would be down a little bit, but they took to it running. They’re executing pretty good and playing some good opponents too.” Comfort is 4-2 through non-district and started the year at 4-0, but injuries caught up with the Bobcats, and they dropped their last two games.
They were down to 23 healthy players at the end of non-district and unfortunately for the Bobcats, they aren’t getting anybody back for Friday’s game.
“We played some really physical football games and have been in them all but one and even that one against Llano that we lost was physical,” Rieken said. “We rested and have to get that sense that the real season starts now and focus on that.”
Comfort only had four district games, which means they are in a five-team district. They basically have to win one game to make the playoffs.
