SAN ANTONIO – The water polo teams from Boerne Champion were defeated in the state semifinals last Friday at the UIL state tournament held in San Antonio at Davis Natatorium.

The Champion boys faced League City Clear Creek and were beaten, 17-12.

The Lady Chargers played Clute Brazoswood and were eliminated 15-8. Both Charger squads return to Boerne with bronze medals. This is the boys’ fourth straight appearance at state and the second straight year for the Lady Chargers to play at the state tourney.

Champion coach Scott Slay said he’s proud of both teams for winning the region and making it to the state tournament.

“The teams had to play their best to beat us and while losing is hard, we take pride in our third-place finishes,” he said. “We gave it our best and that is all you can do.”

Will Harrison was named to the boys all-tournament team and Bennett Rice landed on the girls all-tournament squad.
