Eagles earn win over TMI, looking forward to bye week

Geneva School of Boerne picked up a non-district victory over the TMI – Episcopal football team last Saturday night in San Antonio.

Saturday’s game turned into a shootout, but Geneva prevailed, 45-38. The Eagles are 7-2 overall and 3-1 in district.

After taking this Friday off, they close out the regular season at home against Corpus Christi John Paul II on Nov. 7 for homecoming.

Early on in last Saturday’s game, it looked like the Eagles were going to run away with a lopsided win after tallying the first three scores, but the Panthers closed the gap before Geneva closed it out.

Caleb Quitadamo put the Eagles up after he scored on a 1-yard pass to Walter Teague.

Quitadamo later connected with Chase Doran on a 10-yard TD pass and then Parker Eiland booted a 29-yard field goal for the 17-0 lead.

TMI finally got on the board with an 18-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and converted its 2-point try and the Geneva lead was down to 17-8 as the game went into halftime.

Shae McNew added a rushing touchdown, and Reid Wilson also ran it into the end zone, and the Eagles were up 31-8.

TMI found the end zone again, this time on a 16-yard pass, and it was 31-14 after the Panthers went for 2 and didn’t convert this time.

Geneva responded through the air with a Quitadamo 53-yard scoring strike to Reid Aderholt and the Eagles pulled ahead 38-14 with 9:41 left and appeared to be cruising to a comfortable win, but TMI fired back with three straight touchdowns.

The Panthers recorded passing touchdowns of 21 and 40 yards and then punched it in on a 6-yard run. TMI also converted all three 2-point tries for 24 points and tied it at 38-38 with 3:08 left.

With time winding down, Quitadamo led the Eagles on a game-winning drive. The Geneva QB hooked up with Aderholt on another TD pass, this one for 30 yards. Eiland booted the extra point, and the Eagles were up 45-38 with 1:04 left.

Geneva’s defense held on from there and didn’t allow any points the rest of the way as the Eagles wrapped up the victory.

Quitadamo went 17 for 27 through the air for 272 yards and four touchdowns, Shae McNew ran for 110 yards on 9 carries and a score, Wilson rushed for 147 yards on 16 totes and also had a touchdown.

Aderholt tallied 188 receiving yards on 9 catches and had two TDs, Doran grabbed 6 passes for 51 yards and scored, while Teague had a touchdown catch.

Aderholt also picked off two passes, while Teague and McNew came up with one interception as well.

Geneva coach Bob Rosenstiel said they are looking forward to the break and taking some time off before closing out the regular season next week, ahead of what they hope is a deep playoff run.

“We’ve been grinding for 14 weeks, so I gave them a couple of days off,” he said. “(After that) we’ll get back to the basics.”
