Boerne Champion split its last two girls basketball games and beat Madison on the road last Friday and fell at home Tuesday afternoon against Medina Valley.
The Lady Chargers are 4-5 overall and return to action Tuesday as they begin district play at Veterans Memorial before playing in the Navarro tournament next weekend.
Vs. Medina Valley
Champion held a lead in the second half, but Medina Valley rallied to defeat the Chargers 42-39.
The Chargers were up 36-33, but the Lady Panthers went on a 7-0 run in the second half and pulled ahead 40-36.
Champion coach Jason Sanders called a timeout, but the team turned it over coming out of the break and had to start fouling.
MV made 1 of 2 at the line, and it was 41-36 before Sage Ramsey drained a 3-pointer to make it a two-point game at 41-39 with 32 seconds left.
The Panthers were fouled again and once again went 1 for 2 at the line to make it 42-39. Champion attempted a shot near the buzzer, but it was off and Medina Valley held on for the win.
After scoring 13 in the third quarter, the Chargers only finished with 5 points in the fourth, the 3 from Ramsey and two free throws from Brielle Burdick.
Burdick led the team with 9 points, Saoirse Ray finished with 8, Kylie Baum scored 7, Ramsey tallied 6, Jordyn Davis and Jenna Koepke both knocked down one 3-pointer apiece for 3 points, Emily Candler scored 2 and Kam Edwards hit a free throw.
Vs. Madison
Champion defeated Madison last Friday, 48-36.
The Lady Chargers were in double digits all four quarters and scored 10 in the first and 11 in the second for the 21-12 lead after they held the Lady Mavs to 5 and 7 points in the first two quarters.
Madison played better in the second half and netted 24 points with 11 in the third and 13 in the fourth, but Champion still outscored them with 27 points after hitting 16 and 11.
Champion went to the foul line 29 times on Friday and made 19 free throws for 65 percent free-throw shooting.
Brielle Burdick paced the team with 21 points and went 11 for 15 at the line, Jenna Koepka was also in double figures with 10 points and was 5 for 6 at the line, Kam Edwards and Jordyn Davis both netted 5 points, Saoirse Ray scored 4 and Sage Ramsey hit a 3.
