The Boerne High girls basketball team ran away with a 60-34 victory over Boerne Champion Friday night at Charger Gym.
BHS also took on Alamo Heights Monday at home and defeated the Lady Mules (67-26) and improved to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in district. (For more on the game vs. The Mules, look in this weekend’s Boerne Star.)
Champion was back on the court Monday as well at Pieper and fell to the Warriors (43-19) to stand at 9-11 overall and 2-3 in district. (For more on the game vs. the Warriors, look in this weekend’s Boerne Star.)
Both BISD teams are off until Dec. 29-30 when they co-host the district’s holiday tournament.
After taking a 16-11 lead in the first quarter at last Friday’s game, the Lady Greyhounds got some separation in the second stanza after outscoring the Lady Chargers in the period, 18-3, for the 20-point lead at halftime, 34-14. BHS won the third quarter 18-11 and opened up a 52-25 advantage by the time the final stanza rolled around.
The Chargers took that fourth period but only by a point, 9-8, to close it out.
Boerne coach Amy Ruede said Friday’s win wasn’t so much about their rivalry with the Chargers as it was about just getting a district win in 26-5A.
“We are focused on one game at a time and focusing on us and not our opponents,” she said. “We went through our scouting report and film session just like they were any other team and talked about needing to win for our district record.”
Nine different players scored for BHS and they were led by Sutherlin Menn, who was the only Greyhound player in double digits with a dozen points.
Addison Saur and Melia Gonzalez both netted 9, Hartlee Menn scored 8, Emery Reyes had 6, Addison Neal and Addison Palluch finished with 5 points each, JT Hernandez tallied 4 and Oleyvia Ramos had 2.
Hernandez snagged 5 rebounds and had 5 assists, Palluch dished out 8 assists and Sutherlin Menn came up with 4 steals.
Brielle Burdick paced the Chargers with 14 points and Sage Ramsey added 11 points as they combined for 25 of their 34 points.
Kam Edwards and Saoirse Ray both scored 3, while Taylor Dennis, Emily Candler and Lorenna Barreiro all hit one free throw apiece.
