Zero violent crime on campuses, a top score in rankings, a prize-winning essay and a thank-you to trustees topped the discussions at a recent Boerne Independent School District board meeting.
During a public hearing on the district’s 2024-25 annual report Jan. 20, trustees learned no reports of assaults against persons or other criminal incidents were made at local schools.
The 2024-25 Texas Academic Performance Report, which also measures the district’s special education determination status, indicated the school district scored an A.
Other details revealed at the session:
• 11,041 students are enrolled in the district
• 29.1% of students are considered “at-risk”
• 18% meet the criteria for special education.
The hearing was held in conjunction with School Board Appreciation Month, with a video of principals and teachers praising the elected trustees.
“We want to thank all of you for all that you do for us,” Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary School Principal Dayna Comley said.
“As a mom, your neighbor, and proud principal of Fair Oaks Ranch, we see all that you do for us. Taking your time and energy to bring our community together,” she added. “To help our students, our staff, and all our citizens become one big part of the ‘Boerne Advantage.’” During the commendations portion, trustees learned Boerne Middle School South student Camden Todd won first place in the “How Are You Showing Patriotism in the Support of Our Country Right Now?” essay contest initiated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 688.
Todd received $200 from the post and $300 from the school district.
The meeting also celebrated Boerne High School Coach Brett Sawyer, who was named District 13-5A Division II Football Coach of the Year.
Sawyer became head coach in February 2025 after serving seven years as the school’s defensive coordinator for the Greyhounds.
