Peck paces Chargers with

37 points vs. Alamo Heights

37 is No. 5 on all-time single game scoring list at Champion

After setting a single- game scoring record for the Champion boys basketball program with 45 points against Veterans Memorial on Jan. 13, Gavin Peck had another great outing for the Chargers Friday at Alamo Heights.

Peck dropped in 37 to pace Champion past the Mules, 71-66. The Chargers improved to 18-9 overall and 5-4 in district.

Champion hosted Boerne High Wednesday and will visit Pieper Friday.

Peck’s 37 points on Friday is fifth best for a Charger in a single game. He ties Nathan Ghavidel for No. 5 on the list after Ghavidel had 37 against LEE in 2018.

More importantly, Peck’s 37 points helped the Chargers win and kept them in the race for a playoff spot, and they also split the season series with the Mules.

At 5-4, Champion moved up to third in 26-5A but with seven 26-5A games left on the schedule heading into this week, a lot can still happen.

Besides Peck’s 37, Travis Clark was also in double figures with 14 points, Nik Georgelos added 9, Reid Reddy scored 7, while Ryan Gallardo and Jayden Davis both netted 2.
