Prior to Saturday’s 5A state meet, Champion swim/dive coach Scott Slay was honored as last year’s girls coach of the year. Slay was joined by, from left, BISD assistant AD Terry Gault, assistant swim coach Mike Gillette, BISD superintendent Dr. Kristin Craft, Champion principal Natalie Benke, Charger football coach and campus coordinator Blane Ellis and BISD athletic director Stan Leech.
The 400-free relay of Cora Skoog, Kate Canales, Karly Whitehead and Addison Graham on the podium after winning the race and setting a new 5A record in the process. The fearsome foursome also set a record in the 200-medley relay, while Canales broke the 5A mark in the 100 breaststroke as the Lady Chargers set three 5A records at the meet.
