The Ingram Moore baseball team played well on Thursday and snapped Comfort’s eightgame winning streak.
Comfort had posted eight run-rule victories during their streak, but the Warriors found a way to slow them down and recorded the 6-3 victory at Bobcat Field. Mainly, it was Warriors’ pitcher Tyler Langbein, who fanned 15 batters.
The ’Cats slipped to 3-1 in district (16-3-1 overall) and lost for only the third time this season.
CHS starts a series with Brady this week. They hosted the Bulldogs Tuesday and then visit Brady on Friday.
Both teams finished with 5 hits in last Thursday’s game, but four Bobcat errors helped the Warriors tally 5 unearned runs.
It was tied 1-1 at the end of the first frame, but Ingram scored another run in the second for the 2-1 lead and then scored 3 more runs in the third for the 5-1 advantage.
Comfort tried to rally but never scored more than a run in any of the seven innings. The Bobcats pushed in a run in the fourth to make it 5-2, but Ingram added another run in the top of the sixth for the 6-2 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, Comfort loaded the bases with no outs, but Langbein struck out the next two Bobcat batters for two outs.
A passed ball allowed Mason Matt to score from third and make it 6-3, but Langbein retired the next Comfort batter to strike out the side after a rough start to the inning.
In the seventh, Travis Gwaltney singled to start the inning, but the Warriors turned a double play for two quick outs. From there, Langbein ended the game by striking out the next Bobcat batter.
Langbein needed 105 pitches to get his 15 ks and he only walked one, scattered 5 hits and yielded one earned run.
Mason Matt, Matt Kemp, Augie Diaz de Villegas, Gwaltney and Rhyder George accounted for Comfort’s 5 hits, while Matt scored twice and Kemp plated a run.
Mason Matter went six innings on the hill and used 104 pitches for the Bobcats. He gave up 5 hits, 1 earned run, 4 walks and fanned 7. Owen Schulze threw the last inning and fanned 2 and didn’t give up a hit, walk or run.
