SAN ANTONIO — The January 2026 unemployment rate for the eight-county San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is 4.3 percent, an increase by six-tenths (0.6) of a point over the month from the 3.7 rate in December 2025, and four-tenths of a point (0.4) higher than the 3.9 rate in January 2025.
As reported by Workforce Solutions Alamo, the January 2026 unemployment rate for the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is lower than the state’s not seasonally adjusted (actual) January 2026 rate of 4.5 percent. The Civilian Labor Force for the MSA decreased by 3,605 individuals over the month and increased by 2,353 individuals over the year.

In the San Antonio-New Braunfels MSA, 5,100 jobs were added over the year at a 0.4% growth rate.
Three major industries showed monthly gains in January 2026: Construction, Private Education and Health Services, and Other Services.
While job growth in Mining and Logging remained steady over the year, Private Education and Health Services and Other Services achieved positive annual job gains.
In January 2026, job losses occurred over the month in seven major industries: Trade Transportation and Utilities, Government, Financial Activities, Leisure and Hospitality, the Information industry, Manufacturing, and the Professional and Business Services industries.
Three of these industries achieved positive annual jobs gains over the year: Leisure and Hospitality, Financial Activities, and the Trades, Transportation and Utilities industries.
