CELEBRATING THE ARTS

Join us at 6 p.m. May 8 for the opening reception of our 2026 No Blank Canvas artist, Isaac Grigar’s “Their Absence is Our Presence.” Grigar’s exhibit will hang May 1-29 at the Patrick Heath Public Library, 451 North Main St. in Boerne.

To attend the reception, call 830-249-3053 or RSVP to: [email protected] by May 1.

So, what is “No Blank Canvas”? “No Blank Canvas” is a program between the library’s Public Memory Lab and Hill Country Council for the Arts, with generous support from the Mellon Foundation.

“No Blank Canvas” is designed as a year-long artist- in-residence program to explore our archives holdings and, where primary evidence is scant, to fill in the blanks of our history. Each year, we invite artists to apply with their visions and ideas; one is selected for this process.

This year’s artist, Isaac Grigar, is a mixed-media artist with work spanning painting, illustration and 3D installation. He received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2022, and master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Texas-San Antonio, in 2025.

Tandem to his artistic practice, Grigar seeks to enrich his community through teaching within higher education, and is currently a lecturer on art and art history at UTSA.
