THE BOOKWORM

No weekly youth programs in May

We’re getting ready to stomp, chomp and roar our way into summer at the library. Before we can unleash all the prehistoric fun, our Youth Department needs a little time to dig, discover and prepare.

During the month of May, we’ll be pressing pause on our regularly scheduled weekly programs so we can excavate all the details for a dino-mite summer lineup. Trust us; it’ll be well worth the wait.

Special May storytime

Join us at 10:30 a.m. May 13 for a special storytime featuring Perry Aguilar from the Jewish Federation of San Antonio and PJ Library. Perry will share a meaningful story in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month that is sure to shock listeners (in a good way).

This all-ages event is a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate; everyone is welcome.

Parent-Child Workshop

We’re excited to offer one of our most meaningful programs: the Parent-Child Workshop. This special five-session series will take place every Friday in May at 10 a.m. and is designed for parents and caregivers with children ages 1–3.

Each week, families will enjoy a welcoming play environment filled with engaging toys and an interactive art table, while also having the opportunity to connect with a different child development professional.

It’s a relaxed, supportive space to ask questions, build early literacy skills, and connect with other families in the community. For more information or to sign up, email Cassidy at cherrera@boernelibrary. org—we’d love to have you join us.

Summer opening party

Don’t miss our Summer Opening Party from noon to 3 p.m. May 30. Watch as “live” dinosaurs roam the library grounds; snap some unforgettable photos; and enjoy an interactive dino show. It’s the perfect way to kick off a summer full of adventure.

Sneak peek into summer

Get ready to dig into adventure. Our Summer 2026 theme, Unearth Your Story, brings the prehistoric world to life at the library.

This summer, young explorers of all ages can stomp into a season filled with dinosaurs, fossils and rock-solid fun. From lively, roar-worthy storytimes to hands-on experiences, there’s something to discover for everyone.

Kids can unleash their creativity with dino-themed DIY food projects, experiment in our explosive Jurassic Lava Lab, and uncover ancient treasures at the Fossil Finders dino dig site.

Rock lovers, get ready to dig in! At Rock Readers, we’ll uncover cool, surprising facts about the world of rocks and fossils. Then, daring adventurers can journey to our back lawn for a chance to come face-to-face with some amazing ancient animals.

Crafty creators will love Veloci-crafters afternoons, and our explorers can track their way through a thrilling dino hunt along the treacherous track of Old No. 9.

Our youngest paleontologists won’t miss out either, with special sensory days designed just for tots. And for a truly unforgettable experience, visitors can step into our very own dinosaur fossil museum — right here in the library.

We can’t wait to dig into summer with you. See you at the library.
