Brinsmade Art League ‘Artist of the Month

Lleanna Brinsmade is a Boerne-based, selftrained portraiture artist who works in pastels, focuses on commissions and is especially passionate about capturing a wide range of skin tones.

Her piece, “ Eyes Toward Tomorrow: Island Muse,” pastel, 12 inches- by-16 inches, portrays Koko, a woman from the Pacific Island nation of Palau and godmother to the artist’s great-niece.

Brinsmade’s work can be viewed at Frost Bank, Jefferson Bank, Liberty Capital Bank, (formerly Texas Heritage Bank), Security Bank, and the Bank of America, and at The Center at Kronkosky.

• Boerne Lemonade Day, hosted by the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce with the stated mission to help today’s youth become the business leaders, social advocates, county volunteers and forward- thinking citizens of tomorrow.

Last year, 92 stands were hosted in the area, primarily on Main Street and the Hill Country Mile, with 280 participants. Pucker up for lemonade and judge for yourself. Winning participants are awarded $250 each with the winnings donated to the local nonprofits of their choice!

• Hill Country Council for the Arts, Mini Immersive Workshop, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9. Block printing, taught by Mary Ann Simmons.

In this beginners-level block printing class, participants will learn the basics for creating an original block relief print.

Participants will learn how to design and transfer an image onto a block; how to carve into the material using handheld gouges; how to roll water-soluble ink onto the surface using a brayer; and how to print the image by laying printing paper onto the block, applying pressure with a spoon or baren.
