Next year is here for the Geneva School of Boerne football team.
The Eagles open the 2026 regular season this Friday on the road at Sacred Heart. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
TAPPS, the governing body for most private schools in Texas including Geneva, decided to finish up the football season in November and not drag it into December, so they moved everything up a week.
Usually, the TAPPS state championship football games were held the first weekend in December but now they’ll be done with the sport in the final weekend of November to free up athletes to play other sports.
Foren said it hurts having one less week in the preseason but added that everybody in TAPPS is in the same boat. The coach noted that teams with a lot of returning players are in a better spot.
“I think we’re ahead because our team is a veteran group,” he said. “With some teams you worry about that but if there’s a team that can handle it, I think it’s ours because our guys have played a lot of football and won a lot of games.”
Sacred Heart is in Hallettsville, and the team is known for its tough-nose brand of football. They run the Wing-T or better known as the three-yards-anda cloud-of-dust offense. When a team runs that type of offense well, it can cause problems because it’s geared to control the clock.
“We have a good sense of what we’re going to see from them, toughness is their calling card,” Foren said. “They have a well-respected coach who does a good job. They’re good at what they do.”
The Indians went 5-7 last year and made the playoffs and Geneva finished 10-3 in 2025. Foren is confident in his team’s ability because they return a lot of experience but knows the Indians will be a tough test.
“That’s a tricky offense to see in Game 1,” he said. “We have to be disciplined and take what they’re giving you.”
