It was a great effort by the 2026 Boerne Little League All-Star team that had its season come to an end Monday at the hands of the Hamilton, Ohio (Great Lakes) team.
Ohio eliminated Boerne (Southwest) 6-1 in a loser’s bracket game after Boerne was defeated by Tacoma, Washington (Northwest) in their opener last Friday, 4-3.
Timely hitting escaped Boerne on Monday after they left 11 runners on base, including runners at second and third seven times. They actually outhit Ohio, 6-5.
Boerne loaded the bases in the third with one out but didn’t produce a run. Their only run of the contest came in the bottom of the sixth as they went down fighting despite trailing by six runs.
In that inning, Merritt Cude reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to second on a single by Case Greco. Cude advanced to third after he tagged on a fly ball hit by Kasen Martinez. From there, Cude scored on a Carson Patrick single for their only run of the game.
The next batter was retired and it ended there for the Boerne team that was making its second appearance at the Little League World Series since 2024.
Ohio scored a run in the first for the 1-0 lead and never trailed from there. They pushed in two runs in the second and two more in the fourth for the 5-0 advantage. Ohio tallied an insurance run in the top of the sixth to make it 6-0 before Boerne could get on the board.
Boerne’s six hits were all singles after Walker Yost, Martinez, Patrick and Greco had one hit apiece, while Lyle Fischer banged out two base hits.
Cude started on the hill for Boerne and went three innings. Martinez and Yost combined to throw the final three frames, while Bob Frazier tossed five innings for Ohio but reached his pitch limit. Frazier was replaced by Walker Osborne who closed it out.
