Boerne High was entered in the SAISD volleyball tournament last weekend where the Lady Greyhounds had a strong showing and placed third overall.
The Hounds finished with a 5-1 mark and won their first four matches at the tourney. Their only loss came to eventual tournament champion Churchill in the semifinals.
Lauren Magnus was named to the all-tournament team for Boerne.
BHS is 11-3 overall and hosted Providence on Tuesday. They are entered in the Wildcat Classic this weekend in Elgin to close out regular-season tournament play.
Boerne opened pool play by defeating Holy Cross, Jefferson and Roosevelt. They handled Holy Cross, 25-12, 25-17, jumped on Jefferson, 25-8, 25-13, and then closed out pool play by roughing up the Rough Riders from Roosevelt, 25-17, 25-17.
The Greyhounds returned the next day and swept McCollum in the quarterfinals on Saturday, 25-22, 25-21. That put Boerne in the semifinals where Churchill beat them in three sets after BHS took the first game, 25-20, and was the only set the Chargers dropped all tournament. Churchill, the No. 8 ranked 6A team in the state, captured the last two sets, 27-25, 25-18.
Saturday’s loss to Churchill put BHS in the third-place game against Highlands and the Hounds defeated the host team in two sets.
