After a big road win to start the 2026 season, the Geneva School of Boerne football team will have its home opener this Friday by hosting Natalia.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Boerne.
Geneva is coming off a 48-6 win over Sacred Heart last week and while the Eagles were impressive in their lopsided victory, head coach Adam Foren said there are still things to work on.
“We had two drives into the red zone and settled for field goals, and they should have been touchdowns,” he said. “We also have some protection things we need to fix.”
Natalia is a 3A-DI school and had a good run from 2018 to 2023 and was a playoff team all six of those seasons but hit a dry spell the last two years. The Mustangs only won one game in 2024 but picked up five wins last year and are heading in the right direction with head coach Jason Reynolds, according to Foren.
“They have a well-respected coach who is a good guy,” Foren said about Reynolds. “They lost some skill guys but have some talented young skill players.”
Natalia uses two different quarterbacks, and one is a good passer while the other is a better runner. Foren said regardless of who is under center for the Mustangs, they need to tackle.
“We’re going from (defending) a Wing-T (last week) to a spread (this week), so it’s going to be about us tackling in space,” he said.
Geneva’s defense pitched a shutout last week until the final minute after Sacred Heart scored with 39 seconds left. The Eagles overwhelmed the Indians from the start and were leading 24-0 with 3:25 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Eagles took a 48-0 lead into halftime. It went to a running clock in the second half and Foren removed his starters. They would have been able to pad their stats, but Foren said it’s a long season and it allowed him to get playing time for his younger guys.
“We have some young players and we’re looking to see them grow,” he said.
Geneva’s defense forced five first-half turnovers against Sacred Heart and two of them were returned for touchdowns.
“Our physicality overwhelmed them and caused some of their turnovers,” he said. “Some of their turnovers were self-inflicted but we put a lot of pressure on them.”
Eagles QB Caleb Quitadamo totaled four touchdowns after he threw for two TDs and ran for two more scores, while Chase Doran caught two receiving TDs. Defensively, Shae McNew turned two of those five turnovers in touchdowns.
Also, Trinity University commit, Parker Eiland booted field goals of 25 and 20 yards to go with six extra points.
