Eagles in for tough test on Friday vs. TMI - Episcopal

The Geneva School of Boerne football team has looked impressive in its first two games so far this year and beat their opponents by a combined score of 97-14 to stand at 2-0, but things will get a lot harder Friday when they host TMI – Episcopal.

Eagles coach Adam Foren said TMI will be their toughest test of the year so far.

“It should be a fourth-quarter game,” Foren said. “They have a lot of talented skill guys, so we’re going to have our hands full.”

The Panthers (1-0) are coming off a 53-6 win in their opener last week against Savio where QB Grant Joyner threw for five TD passes. Wide receivers Matthew Anderson and Justin Alexander combined for 343 receiving yards and hauled in all five touchdown passes from Joyner.

Foren said TMI is good at getting the ball to their two wide outs in different ways.

“The first two teams we played were run heavy, but these guys spread the ball out,” he said. “They get the ball to their skill guys in space and find different ways to get them the ball. That’s the challenge for us this week.”

Geneva has passed its first two tests with flying colors, scoring 49 and 48 points against overmatched opponents, and Foren said the team has done a good job of playing complimentary football.

“Our special teams and our defense have helped set the table for our offense” he said. “They blocked a punt and had two muffed punts, so the offense has had short fields to work with.”

Foren said Friday’s game will tell him a lot about his team.

“It’ll be a good test to see where we’re at,” he said. “We haven’t had much adversity yet, it’s good to see some adversity before district play. It’ll be good to see where we’re at against a quality skill group.”

The Eagles are at home for the second week in a row this Friday. Foren said they played well in their home opener last Friday.

“Home openers are always tricky, but they came in with the right mind set for the second week in a row,” he said. “We made an opponent, who will be better down the road, look a lot worse than they are.”

Geneva QB Caleb Quitadamo was 13 for 15 for 207 passing and five TDs, while Reid Aderholt caught five passes, three of them for touchdowns, and totaled 130 receiving yards.
