The Boerne Champion volleyball team was entered in its final regular- season tournament of the year and had another strong finish.
In their two other tournaments this year, the Lady Chargers placed second in Abilene and won the Pieper tourney before taking second in last weekend’s Seguin Tournament.
Champion played nine matches and won its first eight before falling in the championship match to go 8-1 at the event and stands at 20-4 overall.
At the tourney, Brady Cooksey and Brielle Boothe were named to the all-tournament team.
The Chargers are off Tuesday and host Dripping Springs on Friday, 6:30 p.m.
After that, the Chargers open district play at home against John Jay on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Champion went 3-0 in pool play with victories over TMI-Episcopal, Stockdale and Long Creek. The Chargers beat TMI in three sets, 20-25, 25-21, 25-13, swept Stockdale 25-19, 27-25, before defeating Long Creek, 25-16, 25-21.
On Friday, Champion beat Lockhart, Southside and Steele. They locked up Lockhart, 25-14, 25-7, swept Southside, 25-16, 25-12, and stopped Steele, 25-17, 25-25.
On the final day of the tourney, the Chargers knocked off Del Valle in two sets, 25-14, 25-21, beat Seguin in three sets, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, and then faced Steele again. The Lady Chargers won the first set against the Lady Knights, 25-17, but dropped the next two, 25-19, 25-23.
