Bobcats look to bounce back from tough loss, will host Ingram for homecoming

Comfort High will look to bounce back from a tough loss last Friday at Crystal City.

The Bobcats held a 23-7 lead at halftime but didn’t score in the second half and were outscored 28-0 as they fell to the Javelinas, 35-23.

Comfort coach Jay Rieken said last week’s loss stung but added that they have to put it behind them and get ready for a solid Ingram team this Friday. Not only are the Bobcats playing an undefeated Warriors team, but it’s also homecoming.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bobcats Stadium.

“We have to play more disciplined,” he said. “We have to play smarter, we had a couple of injuries, but they just wore us down.”

Rieken gave credit to Crystal City for playing a strong second half but added that they made some key mistakes down the stretch.

“We had a really good first half, but they just beat us in the second half,” he said. “They platooned in players and we had two bad penalties that hurt us.”

There was a roughingthe- passer call that gave the Javelinas 15 yards and made it 1st and 10 and the Bobcats also jumped on a 4th and 3 for a 5-yarder that gave CC another first down.

Once the Javelinas pulled within striking distance, they went with an onside pooch kick that they recovered.

“We were lined up for an onside kick and they just kicked it over our heads and had their fastest kid recover it,” he said. “We had our opportunities.”

Ingram Moore is off to a 2-0 start and Rieken said they’re very talented.

“Their receivers are really good and they’re really good at slinging the pill around and can put up the points,” he said. “They’re not as big up front as they were last year, but they’re playing well and they formation you to make sure you’re in the right spots.”

The Warriors defeated Hondo 35-14 and beat Brady 41-0. Comfort also knocked off Brady, but it was a by a closer score, 32-29.

Not only can the Warriors score, but Rieken said Ingram also has a strong defense.

“Defensively, they’re sound, they try to make you make mistakes,” he said. “Offensively, they can put up points from anywhere.”
