Boerne Champion hosted South San in a district tennis match Tuesday at the Charger courts, and before that, the Chargers challenged San Angelo Central last week in a non-district match. For what it’s worth, their two opponents use the Bobcats as their mascot.
Champion won both matches and improved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in district. The Chargers will host McCollum on Tuesday and then travel down the road to face cross-town rival Boerne High at the Greyhound courts on Sept. 22. Against South San, the Bobcats didn’t have enough for a full team, so it was an automatic forfeit, but the two sides played eight matches anyway and the Chargers won all eight.
Last week, the Chargers played San Angelo Central and beat those Bobcats, 12-7. Chargers coach Kristin Cantu pointed out that it was the first time Champion had ever defeated SAC.
After the BHS match, the Chargers wind down district play at home against Alamo Heights to close out the month on Sept. 29.
