Champion runners have another strong performance

The Boerne Champion boys won another cross-country meet, while the Lady Chargers had another solid performance as well on Saturday at the Hays CISD XC Invitational.

Champion was coming off a 1-2 finish at Westlake after the boys were first and the girls were second. The Champion boys won their second straight meet, while the Lady Chargers were fourth at the Hays meet held at the 5-Mile Dam Soccer Complex in San Marcos last Saturday.

The Chargers are scheduled to race at the SAISD Meet in San Antonio Saturday morning.

Varsity Boys

Champion tallied 83 points to win the meet. In three meets this year, the boys have finished no worse than second after going second, first and first in their three races so far.

Austin Bowie came in second (132) and Buda Hays was third (143) in the field of 32 teams and 252 runners.

For the Chargers, Shawn Edwards placed fifth with a 15:40, Sebastian Carvallo came in 16th in 16:16, Noah Moreno was three spots back in 19th with a 16:22, while Brandon Martinez and Mason Nelson were 23rd and 24th after both posted times of 16:25.

Abhiram Bhogireddy completed the course in 16:43 for 34th; Pierce Mitchell finished in 17:21 for 74th, while Hector Canales (17:24), Colin Gibbs (17:41) and Luke Longson (17:49) all competed for the Chargers.

Varsity Girls

Churchill won the girls meet (70), NB Canyon placed second (88), Smithson Valley took third (132), followed by Boerne Champion at fourth with 159 points in the field of 26 teams and 229 runners.

For the Chargers, Rebecca Bezerra had a top-three finish after she was third overall with a time of 18:24, Payton Kidder came in 15th in 19:23, Emma Radtke finished in 20:04 for 39th, Abigail Clark posted a 20:13 for 49th and Kaylee Tierney was 53rd in 20:23 to round out the scoring five.

Elena Duran clocked in at 21:43 for 98th, Ellis Conroy was 111th in 21:55, while Kyrie Hollinger (22:09) and Catherine Whitman (23:23) also competed.
