After a 55-0 shutout victory last week to open district play over Cedar Creek, Boerne Champion continues league action Friday on the road at Kyle Lehman.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bob Shelton Stadium.
The Chargers (3-0, 1-0) have tallied 60, 62 and 55 points in their three wins for an average of 59 per game. At this point of the season, most teams have played three games and have been tested in some form or fashion beyond halftime.
While Champion’s opponents have played hard, their three games have pretty much been decided by the break. A lot of the starters have been removed by halftime, which means the Chargers haven’t had to play a game that was decided in the fourth quarter, but Champion head coach Blane Ellis said he’s not worried about it.

“We brought a lot back from last year and those guys who came back are battle tested and know how to play four full quarters with the games we had last year,” he said. “This has kept us fresh and pretty injury free.”
Lehman is 1-2 and dropped its district opener last week against Lockhart in a close one, 20-17. The Lobos won their season opener against Austin Akins, 41-0, and lost to San Antonio LEE, 33-7, in non-district.
Ellis said Lehman will line up in the spread and likes to run out of that formation.
“They like to run a lot of counter and run-pass options,” he said. “They try to be balanced and run 66 percent of the time. They can throw but they want to run the football.
“They are well coached and they do a good job,” Ellis continued. “They’re trying to find ways to win.”
Champion has found ways to win and tallied six touchdowns in the first half last week against Cedar Creek. They scored four of those touchdowns in the first quarter and added two more in the second.
Chargers quarterback Ryder Flugence ran three times for 92 yards and a TD and also tossed TD passes to William Burgess and Mason Clayton on 5 of 10 passing for 124 yards with one interception.
Running back Caleb Farias scored three firsthalf TDs and now has seven this year but added that individual stats don’t matter.
“It’s all about winning , it doesn’t matter how many touchdowns I put up, it’s about the team,” Farias said after recording 140 yards on just eight carries in the game. “I just want to win and as long as our team is winning, I’m winning.”
With the Chargers up 41-0 at halftime, Ellis and his staff started moving players in and out in the second half. Easton Hamel became the workhorse back over the last two quarters and ran 20 times for 114 yards and a touchdown.
Finn Ryan also caught a TD pass for the Chargers team that scored twice in the second half.
