Geneva School of Boerne concluded the non-district portion of its football schedule last Friday, and so far, so good for the Eagles team that enters district play this week.
The Eagles travel to Brazos Christian (2-1) on Friday to open league play with a 4-0 record. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Geneva has tallied 48, 49, 49 and 50 points in their four wins for an average of 49 points or seven touchdowns per game. Head coach Adam Foren said he is pleased with how his team is playing.
“The team keeps hitting check marks you hope for as a coach. The players have bought into everything we’ve asked,” he said. “We’re excited to continue the process and continue to work on the process that got us here.”
Friday’s contest at Brazos Christian will be a battle between two winning programs. The Eagles played in the state semifinals last year, while Brazos Christians (also the Eagles), made it to the championship game in a smaller classification last year and lost for their only setback of the season.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine predicts that the Eagles of Brazos Christian will win this year’s district title after they went 12-1 last year.
“They were state runner up and are traditionally a strong program and have a winning culture,” Foren said. “It’s good to see where we’re at against a team like that. There are six teams in our district and four or five will be dogfights. But it’s only one of six (district games) and it’s the most important game because it’s this week.”
Brazos Christian is 2-1 and was off last week and had coaches at Geneva’s game at Shiner St. Paul. The BC coaches saw Caleb Quitadamo throw for 237 yards and two TDs on 17 of 18 passing.
Chase Doran caught 6 passes for 73 yards and a TD, Reid Aderholt had 4 catches for 45 yards, Shae McNew added 3 catches for 39 yards and a score, Luke Abuzeid snagged 3 passes for 69 yards and Sam Horton had a 9-yard catch.
McNew finished with 66 yards on 11 carries and scored twice on the ground, Asher Shindler ran 3 times for 39 yards and 2 TDs, Quitadamo scored on a 5-yard TD run and Ethan Cameron ran twice for 6 yards as five of Geneva’s touchdowns came on the ground.
Brazos Christian is led defensively by 6-foot-5 end Hunter Black, the coach’s son. Black is committed to play at TCU, and Foren said he’s very talented.
“They’ll move him around a lot; it’ll be a good test for us. They move him around and he’s explosive,” Foren said. “They also have an athletic quarterback who is best when on the move.”
