Boerne, TX – At last night’s meeting of the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees, the district officially adopted a tax rate of $1.0065. This is a slight decrease, of $0.0044 cents, from the previous year.
According to Chief Financial Officer Wesley Scott, the district has fought to lower the tax rate over the past decade while also advocating for the state to increase its funding of public education.
“ Boerne taxpayers appreciate efforts to lower the tax rate. Our goal budgetarily, as always, is to responsibly and efficiently operate within the confines of the tax rate and the state funding formula,” Scott said.
Since Superintendent Kristin Craft took the helm as superintendent, the district has cut over $1.5 million from central office expenditures. The most recent efficiency audit revealed that the district also runs much leaner than neighboring districts, with only 4.2% of total staff making up its administrative team – 0.02% less than peer districts.
Despite cuts, the district remains one of the very few districts in Texas to achieve 7-straight A ratings from TEA. The district also has a 99% graduation rate and a 98% College Career Military Readiness rate, well above the region and state levels.
Scott has launched a “Dollars and Sense” series, which begins on Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at Central Office, 235 Johns Road. Scott leads the monthly sessions about a variety of topics, including how schools are financed in Texas, how taxpayer dollars are used, and more.
