The three 11-man football teams in Boerne were in action Friday night and had key district games. Champion and Geneva School of Boerne were at home, while the Greyhounds had a big road game at Alamo Heights.
All three won, while Comfort High was off this week and opens district play Friday.
Boerne Champion
The Boerne Champion football team kept rolling and won the battle of unbeaten teams after they defeated Austin Anderson Friday night at BISD Stadium, 61-32.
It was a high-scoring game in the first quarter and the Chargers were up 34-15 at the end of the first. Champion scored in every stanza and held the Trojans to 3 points in the second and none in the third as they remained perfect this year at 5-0 (3-0).
Sophomore sensation Ryder Flugence had five passing and two rushing TDs for the Chargers, while his brother Roman Flugence intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. That's the fourth Pick-6 the Champion defense has had this year.
The Chargers are on the road Friday at Lockhart as they continue district play.
Boerne High
Boerne High had a strong second half at Orem Stadium and went on to defeat Alamo Heights, 38-31, to remain undefeated this year at 5-0. It was the district opener for the Greyhounds and the Mules as Boerne starts league play at 1-0.
BHS was trailing 7-3 at halftime but went on to score five second-half touchdowns to get the win. Grant Sweeney tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another, while Callan Combs added a rushing score.
The Boerne defense came up with a fumble at the Mules 1-yard line to set up the offense with a short field.
The Hounds are off Friday and return to the field on Oct. 8 against Long Creek.
Geneva School of Boerne
The Eagles were home Friday and rolled past Corpus Christi John Paul II, 56-7. Geneva won their first district game and improved to 5-1 and 1-1 in district.
Geneva is off Friday and hosts Bay Area Christian on Oct. 9 for a league game.
Comfort High
The Bobcats (1-3) were off Friday and open district play on Oct. 2 at home against Poth.
