The Class of 2026 was inducted into the Boerne ISD Athletic Hall of Honor at a ceremony held last Friday at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch.
This year’s class included the 2010-11 Boerne Champion 4A boys state soccer championship team, former Greyhound and Champion head baseball coach Chuck Foster and former Champion volleyball player Claire Kreuz, while Jeff Dabbs received the Bill Canavan Memorial Benefactor Award for his contributions to Boerne ISD athletics.
2011 Champion boys soccer team
Champion captured the 4A boys state title during the 2010-11 season and was one victory shy of 30 wins after they finished the year with a record of 29-3-1.
About six former players were able to make the ceremony and former head coach David Rogers spoke for the team at the awards ceremony.
Rogers, who also led the 2006 Boerne High boys team to the title, talked about winning state in 2011.
“It takes a lot of things to go right in order to win a state championship,” said Rogers, who became emotional as he mentioned two former players on that team who have passed away. “This group was special and had a commitment to excellence.”
At state, the Chargers beat Humble Kingwood Park in the semifinals, 2-0, and clinched the state title with a 2-1 win over Kilgore.
Claire Kreuz
Claire Kreuz was a 201213 Champion graduate and played on the varsity all four years of high school.
She helped lead the Chargers to three district titles before going on to play at the NCAA Division I level for four years, first at UNC-Charlotte and then at Texas State.
Kreuz talked about her passion for volleyball growing up and said the sport gave her a lot.
“I fell in love with it and played all the time,” she said. “ Volleyball gave me people and I appreciate it. Dream big and give yourself a chance to get there and don’t forget the people who helped you get there.”
Kreuz helped guide the Chargers to three straight district titles and to the regional finals in 2012. She was a Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State selection following her junior and senior seasons, and she played in the TGCA All-Star game in 2012.
And she’s getting married this weekend.
Chuck Foster
Chuck Foster coached at Boerne ISD for 19 years and retired from teaching/ coaching after 29 years in education in 2021. He started coaching at Boerne High in 2002 and then moved to Champion when it opened in 2008.
He led the Boerne High baseball team to their only state title in 2004 after the Greyhounds defeated Denton Ryan in the 4A championship game at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
Foster finished with 425 career wins and guided BISD teams to four regional finals appearances, eight district titles and 15 playoff appearances on the diamond. He was also an assistant football coach and loved coaching both sports.
“Being a teacher and a coach was one of the most fulfilling chapters in my life,” said Foster, who is now a campus pastor at Mission City Church.
Foster won a national championship as a player at San Jacinto College before moving on to play baseball Clemson University where the Tigers earned a berth to the College World Series. He thanked the people who helped him along the way, like his assistants and especially his wife Cheryl.
“I was a better coach and person because of our journey together,” he told her. “Success in coaching is never about one person.”
Jeff Dabbs
Dabbs received the Bill Canavan Memorial Benefactor Award for his work with Boerne ISD athletics. He was involved with the Chargers booster club as a vice president and then president while his two children were in high school but stayed active with the organization long after they graduated.
He still volunteers his time around the Boerne community and has even done public address announcing at sub-varsity football games.
Dabbs said he was shocked when he received the announcement from Boerne ISD Athletic Director Stan Leech.
“I asked him to re-check the list,” he said. “I am truly humbled.”
About the Athletic Hall of Honor This is the 17th class to be inducted into the Boerne ISD Hall of Honor. The Hall was created in 2010 to remember and honor past athletic excellence in the district. A committee was formed by Boerne ISD Athletic Director Stan Leech to help with the selection process. To be considered for the Boerne ISD Hall of Honor, each athlete or team nominated must have graduated a minimum of 10 years prior to being selected, while a coach must be five years removed from coaching in the district.

Members of the 2011 Boerne Champion state champion boys soccer team, along with coaches, were inducted into the Boerne Athletic ISD Hall of Honor. The group poses for a photo at last Friday’s induction ceremony.
