WHERE KENDALL COUNTY EATS: A CLOSER LOOK
Check- ins conducted by the Kendall County health inspector found most restaurants along Main Street operating with high levels of compliance this week, though a few received directions to correct minor violations.
Scores ranged from 93 to 98, with inspectors noting concerns about improper food storage, unclean areas and missing labels.
Selah Café, 616 N. Main St.
Hours: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Recently opened Selah Café offers a variety of coffees decorated with foam designs, house-made syrups and seedoil- free options. The café also has straws filled with syrups for a limited time.
The inspection noted unused cloth wipes were placed on the floor, pumpkin sauce was improperly stored, and opened canned goods needed to be transferred to proper storage containers.

Hamby’s, 437 S. Main St.
Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
Hamby’s offers what it describes as the “ultimate” neighborhood backyard cookout experience, featuring Wagyu smash burgers, hand-spun milkshakes and craft beer. Family-friendly games are also available in the outdoor seating area.
Inspectors observed that no test strips were available to check the temperature of the automatic heat dishwasher, employees were not wearing beard guards or hair restraints, cloth wipes were stored improperly, vents were unclean and personal food items were located near preparation stations.

Richter Tavern, 153 S. Main St.
Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Billed as the oldest bar in the Hill Country, Richter Tavern features a 1920s industrial atmosphere along with custom cocktails, margaritas, ice-cold beer, charcuterie plates, salads, pizzas and burgers.
The inspection noted incorrect sanitizer concentration levels, no test strips available during the inspection, an improperly stored ice scoop and missing labels on bulk rice containers. Corrections were made on-site.

The Dienger Trading Co., 210 N. Main St.
Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
The historic Dienger offers fresh, made-fromscratch dishes, including Southern-style shrimp and grits, French toast, vanilla custard and its award-winning chicken pot pie.
The inspection found a dented can in storage, unclean floor areas, personal drinks in the preparation area, missing roof tiles and an outdated permit that needed to be replaced with the current version.
