Shirley Edna Coleman

April 25, 1943 – January 11, 2022

Shirley Edna Coleman has ended her pain and suffering after a battle with the debilitating Alzheimer's disease. She was called to heaven on the morning of January 11, 2022, at the age of 78. Shirley was born on April 25 in 1943 to Clyde and Kathleen McClellan in Pryor, Oklahoma.

Shirley, also lovingly known as "Grammy," was most praised for her ability to make the best cookies on a moment's notice and always had the right ingredients on hand. She was loved by many for her baking and beanie baby/teddy bear collecting skills.

Shirley had a career as a protocol officer working civil service at Kelly AFB in San Antonio and retired while at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City in 1999.

Shirley is survived by her husband, John Coleman, in addition to her two sons, Robert Cheshier (Lorrie) and Ty Cheshier (Heather). She also had two step-daughters, Sandy Amen (Hank) and Penni Litzau (Steven). She was blessed with 13 grandchildren, Brandon Cheshier (Emily), Colton Cheshier, Avery Cheshier, Nicole Nelson (Chris), Tristian Cheshier, Samantha Krula, Sydney Krula, Patrick Amen, Christopher Amen, Micah Litzau, Hayden Litzau, Renee Coleman and Justin Coleman Smith; along with six-and-a-half great-grandchildren, Carson Cheshier, Lexi Cheshier, Caroline Cheshier, Baby Cheshier, Liam Nelson, Marilyn Smith and Lillian Smith. She had a wealth of extended family and friends that all were dear to her and will miss her.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers, including Lorie, Angelina, Yvonne, Jasmine, Melissa and Sabrina, along with the entire staff Morningside at Menger Springs, in Boerne, Texas.

The family would like to share the following poem in honor of Shirley (Grammy).

“God saw you were tired when a cure was not to be

So He wrapped his arms around you, and whispered ‘Come to me.’

You didn't deserve what you went through, so He gave you rest,

God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best.

When I saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain

I could not wish you back to suffer that again.”
