Arthur William Daly

Arthur William Daly

November 7, 1949 – July 8, 2022

Lifelong Boerne resident Arthur William Daly Jr., age 72, passed away at his home on July 8, 2022. He was born in Boerne on November 7, 1949.

He was raised by his grandmother, Alice Daly, a practical nurse. She and Arthur lived in the back of the house that is next door to today’s Bear Moon Bakery on Boerne’s Main Street. (The front of the house was then a three-room hospital.)

Arthur did well in elementary and middle school and graduated with honors from Boerne High School in 1968. Classmates said that:

• He had a kind spirit and was always the gentleman.

• He took part in school plays, was interested in auto mechanics, scored first in ninth-grade district debates and scored second in extemporaneous speaking.

• He played football and was quite the athlete.

• He was class president his freshman, sophomore and junior years.

• He was one of the top-ranking boys in class, scored in the top 10 percent in the National

Education Development Test and was a member of the National Honor Society.

• He was a committed Christian and very knowledgeable of the Bible.

Arthur earned a scholarship and attended the University of Texas. He joined the U.S. Army, served as a medic and was stationed for a time in Germany.

Once Arthur’s grandmother passed away, he no longer had family in the area, so the congregation of St. John Lutheran Church then became his family, with many brothers and sisters in Christ.

Arthur was kind, thoughtful and gentle. He lived with challenges that might defeat a lesser man. His home was modest and without all the technical gadgets most people have today.

He enjoyed listening to classical music and read voraciously. He didn’t drive, so relied on friends to take him on errands and to appointments; he accepted these kindnesses gratefully and gracefully.

Arthur was a special and unique person who loved and was loved. He will be sorely missed by those who were fortunate enough to call him friend.

Arthur’s funeral service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 315 East Rosewood Ave., Boerne, Texas. Officiating will be Pastor Eric Waters. Committal and burial will take place immediately afterwards at the Boerne Cemetery, with refreshments following in the church’s

Family Life Center.
