Texas Sports Writers select 3 Hounds as all-state

Three Boerne High baseball players were named to the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association 4A All-State Team that was released this week.

All three Greyhounds graduated last spring and helped the BHS baseball team advance to the regional finals in Bill Merrell’s final season of coaching at BISD.

Xander Cloudy was a second-team all-state pitcher, Cam Johnson was a third-team all-state shortstop and Riley Pechacek was named an honorable mention all-state second baseman.

Sports writers and coaches nominate players from around the state and then sports writers from newspapers around Texas vote for the players.

There is a first team, second team, third team and honorable mention and where a player lands depends on the number of votes they receive from media members.
