November 26, 1938 – September 1, 2023

Donald (Don) Franklin Reser passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 1, 2023, with his beloved wife and family by his side after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born Nov. 26, 1938, to Earl and Arlene Reser in Charles City, Iowa, Don was also blessed with a younger sister, Mary Lou. Don graduated from Floyd High School in 1957. After graduation Don worked at Farmers Feed and Grain Elevator and helped his father farm.

Early in life, Don met Joan Soles, his wife and partner in life. They have been married for 64 years. The two wed on Dec. 27, 1959, at the First Baptist Church in Charles City, Iowa. After marriage they moved to Aredale, Iowa, and purchased a farm there.

This union was blessed with three children: Scott, Kevin and Jill. They raised their family on the farm and resided there for 45 years. After retirement, they moved to Charles City, Iowa. In 2021, they moved to Boerne, Texas, to be near family.

While he enjoyed working at John Deere and Thermogas, he was always a farmer at heart. He began driving tractors when he was only 5 years old. He took pride in living on the family farm in Aredale with his wife by his side.

He loved working outdoors, tractors, and harvesting corn. His hobbies included tennis, playing cards, Corvettes, and traveling in the RV.

He served as a board member at United Methodist Church in Aredale, Iowa, for eight years. He and Joan taught Sunday school and the youth group for 12 years. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. After retirement Don and his wife wintered in Mesa, Ariz., for over 35 years and moved to Charles City, Iowa.

He will be missed especially by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom he spent countless hours swing- and stroller-pushing, chasing, playing cards and tennis, swimming and numerous other activities.

He is survived by wife, Joan; his children: Scott Reser, Kevin (Glynna) Reser, Jill (Dan) Griese; his grandchildren, Kristal (Blake) Pitchford, Travis (Jaymi) Reser, Jackson Bassett, Brandon Bassett, Tyson Bassett, Mercedeez Greise, Heather Reser, and Alexander Reser; his great-grandchildren, Brady, Reese, Oaklynn, Ella and Lily; and his siblings, Mary (Denny) Helmers, Shirley Ann (Chris) Cordes, Nancy Norby, Judy (Charles) Thorson and Carolyn Mooberry.

Don was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene; his father, Earl; stepmother, Tracy; stepbrother, Larry; stepbrother, Charles; and grandson, Blaine Greise.
