Comfort High will have to wait at least another week for its first win of the season after the Bobcats fell to 0-3 Friday night at home against its archrival Blanco.

The Panthers won Friday’s high-scoring game, 39-21. Comfort is home again Friday, when the Cats host Brackettville for its 2023 homecoming game.

Blanco was up 20-0 before the Bobcats could get going. Gio Lopez put the Cats on the board late in the first half to make it 21-7 after the Julio Lopez-Torres extra point with 2:26 left before the break.

Once the second half began, the Bobcats made it a one-possession game at 20-14 after Micah Nye found the end zone on a 1-yard plunge.

But Blanco ended the third quarter with a couple of explosive plays.

Trevin Young hauled in a 92-yard TD pass from Cameron Anderson and, later in the period, Young returned an interception 42 yards for another score and the Blanco lead ballooned to 33-14.

Comfort didn’t go down without a fight and had the first touchdown of the fourth quarter. Topper Sterling scrambled 40 yards for a touchdown and the extra point made it 33-21 but the Panthers had the final TD of the game with a short run and the lead was 39-21 with 7:40 left to round out the scoring.

Comfort had another good night running the ball, tallying 341 yards on 52 attempts. Sterling led all rushers with 188 yards on 27 carries and Nye finished with 138 yards on the ground on 19 attempts.

Blanco focused more on its passing game and finished with 212 yards through the air with 154 yards of those going to Young on just 4 catches.

Alexis Padilla had an interception for the Comfort defense.
