The Boerne Education Foundation November 9 awarded $196,386.82 in teacher innovation grants to educators across all Boerne ISD schools.
In all, 93 grants were funded, with staff members surprised with the news of their grant with a big check presented to each of the teachers in their classroom.
Teachers completed online applications at the beginning of the school year and the grants are awarded before Thanksgiving, with the intent to have the grant-in-action in the classroom by January.
The grants are reviewed and awarded by committee members of the Boerne Education Foundation board. The grants enable teachers to purchase innovative classroom tools to promote teaching through critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
“When we support our schools and teachers, we are investing in the lives of our children, the prosperity of our community, and the well-being of future generations,” said Josh Peterson, BEF vice president of disbursements.
Boerne and Champion high schools led the way with 20 grants each, while Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary received 13 grants.
The remaining grants went to: Boerne Middle School South, seven; Kendall Elementary, six; Voss Middle School, five; Herff Elementary, five; Boerne Middle School North, four; Curington Elementary, four; Fabra Elementary four; Van Raub Elementary, four; and Cibolo Creek Elementary, one.
